Tina’s Fire and Ice Facial
Tina’s Fire and Ice Facial
“When it comes to my beauty routine, I’m all about simplicity." says U Beauty founder Tina Craig. "Now that I'm home so much, I especially love to use the Resurfacing Compound to keep my skin smooth and glowing, but I’ll admit once in awhile, I love a good facial."
Enter the Fire and Ice Facial, which sounds unattainably decadent but is just the opposite. Not only does it make for a great at-home activity, you'll find your skin with a refreshed, satiny finish.
"The Fire and Ice Facial is something I’ve done at the most luxurious spas around the world—and it’s surprisingly easy to reproduce at home. I love cryo machines, but I don’t know when I’ll have access to one again (and certainly won’t be buying my own!), so I’ve been making facial-grade ice cubes out of ingredients in my kitchen. The “fire” increases circulation and preps your skin for product absorption, while ice (literally, ice) acts likes a vacuum and seals it all in, leaving you with a smooth, glass-like complexion.
Here’s my recipe for replicating a professional-grade Fire and Ice Facial, followed by a rejuvenating lip scrub, with items you likely have sitting in your refrigerator:
FIRE
Start by placing your face over bowl of hot water for a minute or two to open up your pores. (Be very careful!)
For dry skin:
-2 tablespoons of plain yogurt (or whatever flavor you have in your fridge)
-1/4 avocado
-1 tablespoon of honey
For oily/combination skin, add 2 teaspoons of lemon juice (or two wedges).
Mix it up in a bowl until it’s smooth and creamy with any clean makeup brush, then apply with the brush.
Sensitive skin: Rinse after 5 minutes
Normal skin: Rinse after 10 minutes
It heats up the skin (the probiotics and D-lactic acidosis + AHA in lemon gently sloughs away the upper layer of skin), allowing the honey to penetrate and nourish on a deep layer.
Note: Patch-test the yogurt mask on neck if you’re extremely sensitive.
Rinse with COLD water only.
ICE
Wrap a thin muslin cloth (or any cloth, but just avoid plush thick towels) around the ice cube and gently roll all over face. Do it for a few minutes on each side. This is what gives you the glass skin!
Ice cubes:
Almond or oat milk for hydration
Green tea for inflammation
Chamomile tea for calming and de-puffing
Regular milk for acne-prone skin
Lip Scrub:
-1 teaspoon of avocado oil
-2 teaspoon of brown sugar (or coconut sugar)
-Brush lips with a toothbrush.
(Keep in a container next to sink for quick smoothing.)
Bonus:
Leftover yogurt and lemon makes a great chicken marinade!
Afghan Chutney
-2 cups of plain Greek yogurt
-3 bunches of cilantro
-1 bunch of mint
-3 serrano or jalapeño pepper
-3 large cloves of garlic
-1-2 teaspoons of dried red pepper
-1 lemon
Put all ingredients in food processor until smooth.
Use 1/3 as chicken marinade, and the rest to serve as dip or sauce.”
